A Tale of Two Hotels
I *really* wanted to stay down in Liberdade for a few days, and the pickens were slim, or pricey, so I ended up here.
Now, I knew that the facilities were shared from the listing, but what I wasn't prepared for was the room itself:
It's so small that you couldn't fit two twin beds in there. So small that with my suitcase on the little table, there was barely room to walk by. And the noisy ceiling fan and lumpy pillow were just further annoyances.
It's called a "pousada" ("inn") rather than a hotel, so maybe that's their excuse. The "inn's" only saving grace was that it included breakfast, which was pretty standard.
Now, keep this in mind: $32/ night.
So today I moved back up north to this hotel, right across the street from a little park, nice big lobby, and some pretense to faded glamour:
And my room is only slightly smaller than the one in the four-star hotel:
Breakfast is included, so why is it $22 when inn-land was $32? I dunno. The neighborhood here is a little worse, but not that much. Maybe breakfast will be terrible!
PS I know it seems like I'm more obsessed with prices than I should be, but keep in mind I'm on a strict budget, and costs add up quickly over the long term . . .
