New Fruits and Chinese-Peruvian Food (updated)

Just a few blocks from the Museo Larco is the Mercado Simón Bolívar, not very large and a bit claustrophobic, mostly fruit and veg:

I bought a bag of alquequenje amarillo (Cape gooseberries aka ground cherries), a granadilla (type of passion fruit) and a cherimoya for $3.35.  The first I love and have only once had since being a kid; the two others are new to me:

I won't play the "it tastes like a mixture of X and Y" since I'm terrible at that game, will just mention I liked these both, especially the cherimoya, which is soft and quite sweet.

Update: I bought this gigantic 'pepino' (which also means 'cucumber') from a street vendor without knowing what it was:

Turns out it's a sort of melon, not too sweet and very juicy.  Yum!

When in Peru, . . . get Chinese food!  "Chifa" (Chinese-Peruvian fusion) cusine is everywhere.  This restaurant is just a few blocks from where I'm staying, and AI recommended it:

When at a chifa restaurant, it's de rigeur to order "chaufa," or fried rice. I ordered it with beef, and received another massive plate of food, easily enough for three meals.  This was very good, almost as good as the fried rice I make myself :)  S/34 ($10) including a large Inka Cola.
